The Major Crimes Division oversees the Major Crimes Investigations Section, which is supervised by a lieutenant who reports directly to the Major Crimes Division Commander.
The Major Crimes Investigations Section is comprised of the Aggravated Assault, Homicide, Special Victims, and Forensic Services units. Each unit is supervised by a sergeant who reports directly to their section lieutenant.
The primary mission of the division is to investigate the complex criminal cases that take place in the City of Newport News. The individual units investigate specific types of crimes as suggested by the unit titles.
