Crime Line – Report an Anonymous Tip

The Crime Line encourages members of the community to assist the Newport News Police Department in the fight against crime by overcoming the fear that may inhibit someone from coming forward with information about a crime. 

Crime Line tipsters may remain anonymous and are never required to testify in court. Tips that lead to an arrest or the recovery of stolen property may be eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000.

Newport News Crime Line - August 15, 2020

The Newport News Police Department needs your help to solve a past homicide.

On November 27th, 2019, at 3:04 a.m., Newport News Police were dispatched to the 1400 block of 24th Street in reference to subjects tampering with vehicles and that a subject had been shot. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics pronounced the victim deceased at 4:03 a.m. The victim was identified as 48-year-old Calbert S. Thomas of the 1400 block of 24th Street. It was reported the victim confronted the subjects tampering with his vehicle and was subsequently shot.
