Education

The City of Newport News has 3 early childhood centers, 28 elementary schools, 8 middle schools and 5 high schools. There are also programs available for at-risk students in addition to special education programs. Newport News Public Schools have earned 12 Blue Ribbon Awards from the U.S. Department of Education (a state record). State-of-the-art instructional technologies are used to provide teachers and students with a quality educational environment. Libraries

The Newport News Public Library (NNPL) includes branch libraries throughout the city, a Public Law Library located in downtown Newport News and a collection of digital resources available through the Library’s website. Currently, NNPL has approximately 67,000 cardholders who borrow materials about 643,000 times every year. These materials include over 200,000 books and audiovisual items (such as DVDs, audiobooks, and videogames) and a digital collection that provides access to over 100,000 eBooks and eAudiobooks. Additionally, the Library offers programs for all ages, public computers and WiFi access, Makerspaces, public meeting rooms and more.
