Clerk of Court Bio
The Honorable Angela F. Reason is a life-long resident of Newport News, VA, raised in North Newport News, and a product of Newport News Public Schools (attending Hilton Elementary, Crittenden Middle School, and Warwick and Heritage High School). Clerk Reason is a Certified Court Manager and a graduate of Liberty University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Post Baccalaureate in Paralegal Studies. Elected to the Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court, Angela made history as the first female and African American Clerk of Circuit Court in Newport News.
As a Constitutional Officer and native of Newport News, Clerk Reason has a strong commitment to her community. Additionally, with over a decade of prior experience in Federal Government Contracting as an Administrative and Financial Supervisor at NASA Langley Research Center, an Administrative Generalist at Newport News Shipbuilding, and a Budget Analyst at The Yorktown Naval Weapons Station (Navy Munitions Command Atlantic), Clerk Reason’s background in government administration, finance, and leadership, brought a new perspective and diverse experience to the role of Clerk in Newport News; with emphasis on civic engagement, modernizing the Clerk’s Office through the enhancement of technology, and improving customer and employee relations.
Continuing her focus on the citizens of Newport News, Angela sits on multiple boards, attends, and supports an array of community events, and is the creator of "Conversations with the Clerk," an interactive series of conversations focused on educating the public regarding the different services the Clerk's Office renders.
Civic Duties; Life away from the office
Away from the office, Clerk Reason is a member of Restoration Christian Church (RCC). Angela can most often be seen volunteering or attending youth track and field events across the Hampton Roads area and is currently a member of Woodside High School’s Booster Club and the Vice-President of Woodside High School’s Track & Field and Cross Country Booster Club.
Additionally, Clerk Reason volunteers her services as a youth mentor and women’s empowerment coach, focusing on promoting healthy relationships between mothers and their daughters, celebrating womanhood, and building solid partnerships and bonds between women. Clerk Reason offers one-on-one training for resume writing techniques and facilitates "job readiness" workshops to equip individuals for interviews and the workforce.
Angela serves on the USS Newport News Liaison Committee. This committee, along with the Commanding Officer and crew of the USS Newport News, is responsible for activities focused on forming a continuous interest in and relationship with the ship, its crew, and the city.
Statewide, The Honorable Angela F. Reason is a Virginia Court Clerk’s Association member, serving on the Public Outreach, Clerk’s Convention, and Legislative Committees. Clerk Reason is married to Derek C. Reason, and they are the proud parents of three beautiful children: Ariana, Aaliyah, and Derek Jr.
