CARES Act Grant Program
Now Accepting Applications
The City of Newport News recognizes Not for Profit (NFP) organizations serving the City have been adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In an effort to support these organizations the City has established the CARES Act Grant program. This singular grant program is will only be offered one time. The purpose of this program is to provide operational and/or project support for not-for-profit agencies serving Newport News citizens, and who can demonstrate expenses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
All eligible expenses must have been incurred and paid between March 1, 2020 and December 30, 2020, and be used for the purpose of limiting business interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and/or supporting projects that are directly related to Newport News citizen/client COVID-related services. Project funding will not be continued past December 30, 2020 for any ongoing expenses.
Grant funds cannot be used to pay debt incurred to close a nonprofit or start a new nonprofit. Priority consideration will be given to applications that provide social safety net activities such as financial stability, food and nutrition, literacy/education/attainment, health, housing, positive behaviors/healthy relationships, and/or support/community/social networks. Grants cannot be used for revenue/income loss to the NFP.
Please have all the required attachments listed below prepared before starting your application. You will not be able to save an incomplete application.
- Copy of IRS 501(c)(3) Determination Letter
- Current approved by-laws, mission statement, charter
- The most recent Audited Financial Statements prepared by an independent Certified Public Accountant or the most recent IRS filing (990- or 990EZ form)
- Most recent list of Board of Directors
- Financial Worksheets
