This holiday season City Center at Oyster Point will transform into the North Pole with a new, state-of-the-art, synchronized music and light show for the BayPort Credit Union 25 Nights of Northern Lights. On each of the 25 nights, December 1-25, visitors can enjoy a five minute, theatrical Holiday Magic Light Show, happening at the top of each hour from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM This show includes the Larry King Law Holiday Show Tree, a 42’ intelligent, color/pattern changing tree unlike anything seen before in the Hampton Roads area, along with a synchronized show where lights dance around the fountain to a festive soundtrack. 

The new BayPort Credit Union 25 Nights of Northern Lights holiday event series at City Center will include three very special “North Pole Nights” on December 1, 8, and 15 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  These three Saturdays will feature entertainment, free activities, and special holiday surprises based on a different holiday theme each Saturday. 

The first “North Pole Night” on December 1, 2018 will be the Journey to the North Pole and it will serve as the official opening of the BayPort Credit Union 25 Nights of Northern Lights. A ceremony with City officials at 5:50 PM will lead into the first presentation of the Holiday Magic Light Show with the Larry King Law Holiday Show Tree. Journey to the North Pole night performers include the Power House Dance Group (5:00 PM), the Academy of Dance (6:10 PM), the City Arts Dance Company (7:10 PM), Carolers (5:00 PM, 7:10 PM), Santabones (6:10 PM), Soundscapes (5:00 PM), and CNU A Capella Groups the Newport News Pearls (6:10 PM, 7:10 PM), Extreme Measures (6:35 PM), and Take Note (7:35 PM). 

The December 8th North Pole Night theme is Holiday Candy.  Come for Treat & Treat! No tricks or costumes needed, just lots of free holiday candy. Pick up a special Treat & Treat bag, and a “Sweet Spots” map showing candy locations, at one of our Information Booths. The Culinary Institute of Virginia at City Center will have their corner kitchen open with a variety of sweet holiday tastings for guests, including truffles, gingerbread cookies, homemade marshmallows, pulled sugar candy canes.  Chefs and students will be doing demos for guests to observe. Food vendors for the Dec. 8 North Pole Night- Holiday Candy at City Center will be- Mama Neem's Mobile Seafood Kitchen, Green mountain kettle cornOver the Moon Pizza, Pennsylvania Dutch Funnel Cakes of Virginia, Couture Cakes by Nika, and El Coqui Puerto Rican Cuisine. Indulge Bakery will have three booths selling donuts, truffles and old-time candy. The event area will be decorated with large candy them props and the Peppermint Princess Stilt Walker will walk through the event area and will pose for photos.

Holiday Candy performers will include Dance Works (5:00 PM), the Academy of Dance (6:10 PM), Wacky Chad (7:10 PM), Carolers (5:00 PM, 7:10 PM), Santabones (6:10 PM, 7:35 PM), Soundscapes (5:00 PM), and the CNU A Capella Groups Extreme Measures (6:10 PM, 6:35 PM) and Whole Note (7:10 PM).

The December 15 North Pole Night theme is Snow Pets.  Pets, on a leash or in a pet carrier/stroller, are welcome to come and join in the holiday fun (see below for complete pet policies for this event).  The night will include animal organization displays, pet adoption, pet merchandise vendors, and special pet activities. Bring your own camera/phone and take a photo with Santa Paws. Dress your pet in its cutest holiday outfit and join in the Pet Parade at 5:15 PM in front of the tree (prize for the best pet holiday outfit).
Entertainers for Snow Pets will include the Academy of Dance (5:00 PM), Passage Middle School (6:10 PM), the City Arts Dance Company (7:10 PM), Carolers (5:00 PM, 7:10 PM), Santabones (6:10 PM, 7:35 PM), Wacky Chad (5:00 PM, 6:35 PM), and the Harmonica Club (7:10 PM). Food vendors for the Dec. 15 North Pole Night  at City Center will be- Mama Neem's Mobile Seafood Kitchen, Monique's Crepes, Vinny's on WheelsGreen mountain kettle corn, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Pennsylvania Dutch Funnel Cakes of Virginia, Couture Cakes by Nika, and El Coqui Puerto Rican Cuisine.


On each of the North Pole Nights, City Center restaurant patios will become Jingle and Mingle lounges with food and beverage specials to get  you in the holiday spirit! Enjoy food and drink specials at AromasWorld Specialty Coffees, Bakery & Cafe (drinks: Dec. 1- Peppermint Bark, Dec. 8- The Hawaiian Christmas, Dec. 15- The Grinch), the Holiday Inn Newport News - City Center (Burger Theory- buy one entree, get second entree half off, Salsa's Mexican Grill, the Newport News Marriott at City Center, Neo Kitchen and Bar, and Tradition Brewing Company. Windows throughout the venue will be filled with special holiday displays created by community groups. Children can visit Santa’s Workshop, sponsored by City Center at Oyster Point, where children can meet Mr. & Mrs. Claus and see elves at work.  Free children’s crafts will be offered by Newport News Youth Programs and everyone can enjoy playing Winter Carnival Games.

Strolling entertainment will include Wacky Chad (juggler/comedy), Imagine Circus Performers, and a Walking Christmas Tree. North Pole Nights also offer guests the opportunity to take a short trolley ride to the new Holiday Inn for photo ops in the lobby with a beautifully decorated sleigh and special gifts for kids and adults – a stuffed animal for children 5 and younger, and sweet treats for older guests.  Local food vendors ($) will sell a variety of food and holiday snacks. 

Special Holiday Magic Light Show wristbands will be given away to the first 3,000 people on each North Pole Night. These special CrowdSync wristbands will change colors and flash in synchronization with the light show on each of the North Pole Nights. The wristbands will be given out, while supplies last, on each North Pole Night beginning at 5:00 PM at the corner of Mariners Row and Fountain Way.

Snow Pets Night (December 15, 2018) Pet Policies

  1. All pets must remain on leashes or inside a pet carrier/stroller at the event.
  2. Pets should have the appropriate licenses and vaccinations.
  3. No aggressive or disruptive (e.g., constantly barking) pets will be allowed in the event area.
  4. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
  5. Pets are not allowed on the shuttle bus to the Holiday Inn.
  6. Pets are not allowed inside Santa’s Workshop.
