Citizen Public Works Academy (CPWA)

The Citizen Public Works Academy provides an opportunity for citizens to learn firsthand about the Department of Public Works. Through a series of lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities and field trips, citizens are given an inside look of day-to-day public works operations.


Overview
The academy runs for 10 weeks with most classes held between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Thursday nights. The upcoming CPWA class will be in the Fall of 2023: September 14, 2023 - November 16, 2023

Where
Unless otherwise noted, classes are held at the Public Works Annex building located at:
511 Oyster Point Road
Newport News, Virginia 23602

Qualifications
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a Newport News resident.

We are now accepting applications for the next class. until August 31, 2023.   You may download an application. Completed applications can be emailed to cpwa@nnva.gov. In addition, applications are available at the Public Works Operations building at  513 Oyster Point Road, Newport News, Virginia 23602.
