City employees retiring under a VRS plan may continue the health, dental or vision coverage, if any, that is in effect as of date of retirement. The plans offered are the same as those offered to NNERF retirees. VRS Retirees pay the full cost of these benefits directly to the Department of Finance.
Retirees wishing to continue their coverage must elect to do so at retirement. Once you waive or cancel retiree health or dental coverage, you cannot renter the plan.
Vested employees who leave City employment before retiring are not eligible for post-retirement benefits.
