Scheduling
Please call the Fire Department's Public Education Bureau at 757-975-5400 at least 2 weeks in advance to schedule a tour of a fire station. Tours must be prearranged and dates approved.
Number of People
Your group can be as small as 1 family or as large as 30 people. Large groups may be divided into smaller groups to tour the station. You must provide an adequate number of adults to maintain control of your group. We suggest 1 adult for every 6 children.
Age Level
Tours are for ages 3 and above.
Length of Tour
A tour generally lasts approximately 45 minutes.
Times Available
Generally, times are available any day between 10 AM and 4 PM. Evening hours are also available upon request. Please understand that even with a scheduled tour, the possibility exists that the crew could all be called out on an emergency and the station closed either before your arrival or during your tour. The Public Education and Relations Bureau will be happy to reschedule your tour if necessary.
Preparation
Since our station personnel are in service during tours, please prepare the children by letting them know that there will be loud noises and that equipment should not be touched. The fire engines and medic units may have to respond to emergencies during your visit. It is important for everyone's safety to keep all children controlled throughout the tour.
