Child Passenger Safety Restraint Installation & Education Program

Car crashes remain the leading cause of death for children ages 3-14. Most of these deaths occurred when children were not properly restrained.

About the Program

The Newport News Fire Department's Child Restraint Installation and Education Program is offered as a free service for our citizens. Some of our firefighter / medics have been trained to assist parents in properly installing a child safety seat. Please call 757-975-5030 or 757-247-2332 to schedule an appointment to receive assistance in properly installing your child's safety seat.

Please bring the following:

  • Child safety seat and manufacturer's instructions
  • Car owner's manual
  • Pool noodle, car seat locking clip (helpful in tightly securing car seats)
  • Your child, so the technician can check the child's fit in the car seat

Please note that in the event of an emergency call, the technician may not be able to honor your appointment.
