We anticipate our next hiring process to start Spring 2020. This hiring process will be for candidates wanting to be hired by the City of Newport News Fire Department. Since the current process has changed from previous processes, please ensure you read the selection process steps. You must apply on-line on the City of Newport News’ employment website, and you must call 757-969-1800 (Monday-Friday 8 AM - 5 PM) to register for the written test. You are no longer required to submit a background packet. Any supporting documentation (i.e. driving record, DD214, etc.) will be requested at the time an interview is granted, if applicable.
The Newport News Fire Department is comprised of dual-role personnel. As such, Firefighter-Medics rotate their emergency response duties between ambulance and fire apparatus.
