Concealed Handgun Permit Application

Virginia Code §18.2-308.02 provides that any person at least 21 years of age may apply in writing to the clerk of the circuit court of the county or city of residence, or if a member of the United States armed forces, the county or city in which he is billeted, for a five-year permit to carry a concealed handgun.

The Application for Concealed Handgun Permit (form SP-248, revised 7-1-2017) may be downloaded or completed online and printed from the Virginia State Police website.

For new applicants, you will need to include proof of firearms training and a copy of a government issued photo ID.  Acceptable forms of training are listed in Virginia Code §18.2-308.02.

Renewal applicants may submit a copy of their current concealed handgun permit.

The non-refundable application fee is $50.  Checks or money orders may be made out to Gary S. Anderson, Clerk.

Please allow 45 days for a comprehensive criminal history check to be completed.

Your permit will be mailed to the address listed on your application if granted.  If denied,  a Court Order so stating will be mailed. If additional information is needed for processing you will be contacted at the telephone number listed on your application – therefore, please take care to complete your application LEGIBLY.
