IN THE CIRCUIT COURT FOR THE CITY OF NEWPORT NEWS
RULE OF COURT
Effective immediately, civil trials are no longer set by Docket Call. The procedure for setting civil trials is as follows:
- Any party who desires to have a civil action or cause set for trial will notify the Clerk of Court by filing a praecipe. Only those cases in which a praecipe has been received and filed by the Clerk will be set. After the praecipe is filed, the Clerk will forward a letter to all counsel and/or unrepresented parties requesting that they coordinate their available dates and contact the Judicial Assistant for the assigned Court to set the trial date or a hearing on any exception.
- All other matters (i.e., motions, pretrial conferences, pendente lite hearings) shall also be set by contacting the Judicial Assistant for the assigned Court for a date.
