Instructional Programs offers over 250 Instructional recreation classes each season. From Gymnastics, to Art, Fitness to Music, Computers to Martial Arts and Dance to Quilting, Instructional Programs offers a wide variety of classes, workshops and programs for all ages!

You can pick up a printed copy of the Newport News Parks, Recreation and Tourism program guide at Newport News Public Libraries, City recreation facilities, or at the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism office at 700 Town Center Drive, Suite 320. For more information, call 757-926-1400.
Performing Arts and Studio Arts classes are also offered at the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center.
The Flipateers are competitive gymnastics group comprised of the Flipateers Girls Team, Boys Team, Super Kids and Pre-Team. They compete throughout the state and perform at local events. Tryouts are held each year in June.
City Arts Dance Company is a group of dancers ages 6-15. They compete and perform in ballet, tap and jazz throughout the state. Teams include: Senior, Junior, Mini and Pre-Team. Tryouts are held each year in August.
During inclement weather, Instructional Programs will be closed if the City of Newport News is closed. If the City opens on a delay, classes and programs held before facilities open will be rescheduled. Classes and programs scheduled once facilities are open will run a scheduled.
In the event Newport News Public Schools dismiss/close early, Instructional Programs classes will operate until facilities close. Classes and programs scheduled to run after facilities close will be rescheduled.

WAYS TO REGISTER:
- Register in person: Stop by any of our community centers and register at the front desk. Our friendly facility attendants are always willing to assist with the process. We accept credit cards, checks and money orders,
- Register by phone: Call 926-1400 or any of our other community centers to register with a credit card.
- Register Online: Online registration can be done from the comfort of your home and paid for with a credit card. Please understand there is a convenience fee for this option which is non-refundable. For information on how to register online, please visit ActiveNet registration information.
